Stuart Smith ("us", "we", or "our") developed the Cirkita mobile application and website ("Cirkita", the "Service"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have when using Cirkita.

Cirkita is a transit app for nearby stations, routes, schedules, service alerts, and map-based exploration. Cirkita does not require you to create an account, does not collect payment information, and does not sell your personal information.

Information We Collect

Location Information

If you grant location permission, Cirkita uses your device location to show nearby stations, routes, schedules, and service alerts. Cirkita may send latitude and longitude values to Cirkita backend services to find nearby transit data and supported regions. You can disable location access at any time in your device settings, but some nearby-transit features may not work as expected.

App Preferences and Local Data

Cirkita stores certain preferences on your device, such as your selected theme, last map position, selected or detected region, notification preference, and favorite routes. This information is used to operate the app and restore your preferences. You can clear this data by changing app settings where available, resetting app data, or uninstalling the app.

Usage and Analytics Data

Cirkita may collect usage and analytics data, including screen views, selected station or route identifiers, search interactions, app version, operating system, device type, approximate location derived from network information, and other diagnostic information. This data helps us understand how Cirkita is used and improve the Service.

Crash and Diagnostic Data

Cirkita uses crash reporting and application monitoring services to detect, diagnose, and fix technical issues. This may include crash logs, stack traces, performance traces, device model, operating system version, app version, timestamps, and related diagnostic data. Cirkita configures Sentry not to send default personally identifiable information.

Website Data and Cookies

When you visit the Cirkita website, standard website logs and browser technologies may collect information such as your IP address, browser type, device information, pages visited, and referring URLs. You can control cookies through your browser settings.

How We Use Information

Cirkita uses collected information to:

  • Provide and maintain the Service
  • Show nearby stations, routes, schedules, maps, and service alerts
  • Remember app preferences and favorite routes
  • Send or support notifications when enabled
  • Analyze usage and improve Cirkita
  • Detect, prevent, and fix technical issues
  • Protect the Service and comply with legal obligations

Service Providers

We use third-party service providers to operate, monitor, and improve Cirkita. These providers may process information only as needed to provide their services to us.

Advertising and Tracking

Cirkita does not sell your personal information and does not use your information for third-party advertising. The Android app removes use of the Android Advertising ID, and Cirkita does not request app tracking permission on iOS.

Disclosure of Information

We may disclose information if we believe in good faith that doing so is necessary to:

  • Comply with a legal obligation
  • Protect and defend the rights or property of Cirkita
  • Prevent or investigate possible wrongdoing related to the Service
  • Protect the personal safety of users or the public
  • Protect against legal liability

Retention

Local preferences and cached transit data may remain on your device until you change settings, clear app data, or uninstall the app. Analytics, crash, diagnostic, server log, and service-provider data are retained as needed for operation, security, debugging, analytics, and legal compliance, or according to the retention practices of the relevant service providers.

Transfer of Data

Your information may be processed in the United States and other locations where we or our service providers operate. These locations may have data protection laws different from those in your jurisdiction. We take reasonable steps to protect information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.

Security

The security of your data is important to us. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or method of electronic storage is 100% secure. We use reasonable safeguards, but we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Your Choices

You can control location access, notifications, and certain app permissions through your device settings. You may also contact us to ask questions about your information or request deletion where applicable.

Children

Cirkita is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
